When Wellsboro House Brewing owner Chris Kozuhowski heard that the Penn Wells Hotel was celebrating its 150th year in 2019, he had a perfect idea for recognizing that anniversary – a signature brew. The Penn Wells was more than happy to work with Kozuhowski, who in the past decade turned one of Wellsboro’s other notable historic structures into a thriving restaurant and brewpub, and is now distributing his Wellsboro-crafted beers throughout Pennsylvania.

Kozuhowski wanted to do something special, so the somewhat overcrowded IPA space was ruled out quickly. “Hardly anyone makes a solid Amber Lager anymore,” Kozuhowski noted, so he set out with head brewmaster Rob Kathcart to do just that. The result was the new Penn Wells Amber Lager, and anyone who is planning to stop by the Penn Wells Hotel to help celebrate our anniversary in 2019 can experience the taste for themselves.

Guests attending the Penn Wells Amber Lager launch party on Friday, April 26 were enthusiastic about the new brew. Kozuhowski served as guest bartender at the event and was thrilled with the response to his new creation. Hotel Company President Ellen Dunham Bryant attended the launch event and commented that “Everyone enjoyed meeting with Chris and talking with him about our new Penn Wells Amber Lager. His energy and enthusiasm for his craft are contagious. We are always looking for ways to work with other local businesses, and this collaboration between the Penn Wells and the Wellsboro House is a perfect fit and a great way to commemorate our 150th year.”
